阅读时可留意 award、program、research、education、mission 等词,以及 may、does not claim 如何保留项目边界。
正文 A school gym can become a planetarium . A classroom activity can turn students into detectives who study tiny ocean plants . Those learning experiences grew from partnerships between NASA - funded scientists and educators . On 4 November 2026, Arizona State University reported a new five-year NASA award of 6.48 million dollars for a program called SCoPE , which helps early - career researchers turn space and Earth science into public learning .
SCoPE is a Science Activation effort based at the university . Each year it will run two yearlong groups of ten graduate students and postdoctoral scholars — one group in Arizona and one nationwide . Participants will receive stipends , training , mentoring , and help finding education partners . Separate mini grants of up to 10,000 dollars will support deeper projects designed with those partners . Jessica Swann , the program’s principal investigator , says scientists are often told to engage the public but lack time , resources , or partnerships . SCoPE treats that engagement as real professional work that should be paid and supported .
One recent example shows how that support looks in practice . Sarah Treadwell , a doctoral candidate at the University of North Dakota , worked with OpenSpace to create a live planetarium show inside a portable dome . The program links deep -sea research on Earth with NASA’s Europa Clipper mission to Jupiter’s icy moon . By rolling the dome into school gyms , schools can offer the experience without the cost of a planetarium field trip . Treadwell said the work has changed her life and she believes it is changing children’s lives too .
Another project brought Antarctic phytoplankton research to thirty students in Puerto Rico . Researchers Allison Cusick and Martina Mascioni worked with NASA’s OCEANOS education team . Students examined phytoplankton under microscopes , explored DNA techniques , and used sampling methods from polar research . The activities connected tropical waters with polar ecosystems through the tiny organisms that help feed ocean food webs .
During an earlier award period , SCoPE trained 314 scientists across 49 events and gave 41 seed grants ; early - career scientists received 85 percent of them . The new award runs from 15 October 2026 to 14 October 2031 and is administered by Arizona State University with NASA partners . Dave Williams , a research professor at the university , says people want to know what NASA is discovering now , and scientists close to missions can bring that work to life . Cohort applications open on 1 December , with an online information session planned for 17 November . The program does not claim every school will get a dome ; it offers funded paths for scientists and educators who want to build learning experiences together .
